Welcome to Equality Dance

About Us

Equality Dance started as a ballroom and latin dance school based in South East London, founded in November 2017 by principal teacher, Pete Meager. The aim of the dance school is to teach people the role of their choice – come and learn to lead or follow in both dances, irrelevant of gender. Our classes offer a warm and welcoming approach to teaching, and specifically encourages those who have never danced before to try it for the first time!

“THE FIRST STEP IS TO TAKE ONE”

Pete is a qualified dance teacher, trained under the guidance and support of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and he is also a recognised adjudicator by the British Dance Council (BDC) as well as a promoter member of the British DanceSport Association (BDSA). In November 2022 he was elected onto the Board of Trustees for the ISTD and focuses closely with the organisation on growth, diversity and legacy.

When Pete is not teaching, he works as a professional Master of Ceremonies (emcee) for both National and International dance competitions around the World. With his experience of both Pro-Am and the Equality Dance scene, Pete is often at the helm of large competitions such as the Holiday Dance Classic – Las Vegas, FloorplayLA – California, NASSPDA North American Championships, WDO World Formation Championships – Blackpool, and the IFSSDA World Championships & International Trophy.

He also regularly supports the European Championships and has previously been an active board member of United Kingdom Equality Dance Council (UKEDC), European Equality Dance Association (EEDA), and Federation of Gay Games (FGG).

Pete also organises two of the best equality dance competitions here in the UK: the ‘UK Equality Open’ and the ‘Equality Fun Competition’. He supports both the social and competitive dancer and works voluntarily for Out4Dance and Out4Sport to promote equality dancing around the UK.
